CDC Milestones Tracker

CDC "Learn the Signs" and Milestone Tracker is a resource for families of young children, ages birth to 5 years, designed to help them track development and gives families activities that correspond with their child's developmental needs.

Accessing this Resource:

Families can download the CDC Milestone Tracker App and view or download fact sheets for each age range.  These are available in English and Spanish. Fact sheets are broken down into the following developmental ages:  2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 1 year, 18 months, 2 years, 3 years, 4 years and 5 years.  Fact sheets contain developmental milestones and corresponding activities families/caregivers can do to support their child's development, including videos to show young children demonstrating the skill.  Families who download the CDC Milestones App, will have the opportunity to keep a running checklist of the child's skills and what activities families can implement.

Intended Audience:

This resource is designed for families and caregivers of children ages 2 months through 5 years old.

This website provides specific materials to assist parents in guiding their child’s early literacy development through the use of fun and exciting literacy learning experiences. Practice Guides are available for Infant, Toddler, and Preschool aged children and focus on key skills such as phonological awareness, alphabet knowledge, and early writing.

Families and caregivers can find research-based resources, tips, ideas, printable games, and activities supporting early math learning.

Accessing this Resource:

The Math at Home Toolkit is found on the NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) website. To navigate, browse the hyperlinked resources and choose an activity that would support your child’s learning.  There are printable math games in English and Spanish, as well as linked parent videos that demonstrate how to use everyday home materials to explore math concepts.

National Center for Pyramid Model Innovations

The National Center for Pyramid Model Innovations website contains strategies for increasing social emotional development. The purpose is to support the needs of diverse families, to promote child outcomes, and to provide the support and services that families might need to promote their child’s skill development.

On the Family Engagement page of the NCPMI website, families will scroll down to the Related Resources menu bar.

Young children ages 0-2 will benefit from Making Life Easier and Family Articles sections.

Young children ages 2-5 will benefit from Making Life Easier, Backpack Connection, Family Articles, Scripted Stories for Social Skills, and Teaching Social Emotional Skills sections.

PBS Parents

This website provides families resources, articles, and connected apps related to all areas of early learning.  An activity library provides fun activities to do at home and can be sorted by ages 2-5. In addition, families have access to relevant articles and lists of recommended apps to support children’s progress towards developmental milestones. The website hosts a milestone tracker to help families match activities to their child’s needs.  

Accessing this Resource:

PBS Parents is a stand-alone website. To navigate, scroll to mid-page to the Find Ways to Play section. Select the drop down menu and adjust the slide to the appropriate age ranges and select Apply. Then, select the desired topics by checking the corresponding boxes. Apps and Games that match your filters will appear, and you can select and open in your web browser.

Ready4K

Ready4K is an evidence-based text-messaging program for parents of children birth through fourth grade. Each week, you will receive three texts with fun facts and easy tips to boost your child’s learning by building on existing family routines.  This approach has been shown to increase child development by 2 to 3 months over the course of a school year.  The Ready4K curriculum is available in English, Spanish, and Arabic.

Unite for Literacy contains digital storybooks for shared reading and/or digital narration with young children ages 0-5. Stories are available in 42 languages.

Intended Audience:

Families and caregivers can share these simple narrated stories with young children in their care. The stories are appropriate for all young children, including those with different home languages.
